Built in the second half of the 12th century, the exterior retains the original Romanesque-Lombard architectural lines, but inside it will leave you speechless with its Baroque decorations and all the works of art it holds, including the wooden inlays designed by the 16th-century Venetian painter Lorenzo Lotto. At the end of Lorenzo Lotto and Capoferri’s painstaking restoration of the choir that lasted more than a year and restored beauty and color to the extraordinary 16th-century work, here’s a guided tour to discover this mysterious work and the Basilica’s many other secrets. You’ll visit the medieval frescoes, the countless artifacts, including the grandiose tapestries, the rich confessional by Bergamo sculptor Andrea Fantoni, and the funeral monument of composer Gaetano Donizetti. The visit, lasting about an hour and a half, is possible during the opening hours of the basilica, excluding Sunday mornings, and can be booked up to two days before the requested date. \nChildren under 12 are free of charge.
\nThere is no need to communicate in advance the presence of non-paying children to the tour organizers. the price of 110 euros is the cost of the 2-hour guided tour.
\nThe price, as it refers to the guided tour, remains the same whether you book 1 person or 2 \/ 3 or 4 people.
\nFrom 5 to 10 people the price of the guided tour is 130 euros.
\nFrom 11 to 20 people the price of the guided tour is 165 euros. If you are NOT a resident of the province of Bergamo, there is an entrance fee to the Basilica to be paid on site:
\n– Free for children up to 14 years of age;
\n– euro 2.00 for those between 14 and 25 years of age and for those over 70 years of age;
\n– euro 5.00 for adults between 25 and 70 years of age If, on the other hand, YOU ARE a resident of the province of Bergamo, entrance to the basilica is free. BASILICA HOURS
